In Doug's Garden by Davey Tree: Building a trellis, straw bale gardening and visiting arborist info

In episode two of In Doug's Garden, brought to you by the Davey Tree Expert Company I use my old Boy Scout skills to build a trellis out of bamboo to grow vertically. I'm also planting more cucumbers and other vine crops around the trellis.

I'm also showing off a tough, beautiful rose named 'Funny Face' from Baily Nurseries. They sent it to me to trial a few years ago and it's become a favorite in my garden.

Next, it's repurposing straw bales used to protect a fig tree over the winter. These bales are an excellent place for planting. The bales need to be conditioned with lime and fertilizer before planting. I use this Power Planter auger for digging holes in the bales. I love that tool and no one is paying me to say that, it's just what I use.

Rob Kruljac from Davey explains what to expect when a certified arborist visits your landscape. Did you know a Davey arborist will visit for free? You can reach them at 855-982-8733.
