Need your help saving the WWII tomato seeds named 3945 after a dog disaster
Over the last several years, I’ve built up a nice supply of 3945 tomato seeds. It’s the variety found on a WWII battlefield by a Pittsburgh veteran.
You can read the whole story here.
We have a new puppy named Rocco, who has separation anxiety. He can’t be put in a crate because he actually tears the bottom the crate to pieces and goes crazy. We’ve been working on training him to get used to being without us.
That other day I walked out to the garage to get something and Rocco must have thought I was leaving. When I returned the plastic bag filled with 3945 tomato seeds was chewed to pieces with about 50 seeds left inside.
I carefully scooped up what I could find, leaving me with about 500.
I need your help in replenishing this variety. For years I’ve sent seeds to gardeners, who would grow them out and send a few seeds back as a way to keep the variety alive.
If you grew 3945 before and have some extra seeds, could you please send them to me at the address below?
If you are an experienced gardener and would be willing to grow a plant or two for my and return some seeds, send me a sell addressed stamped envelope to the address below and I’ll send you several seeds.
Thanks everyone for your help.
