Check out these 15 gallon fabric pots from Root Pouch

I discovered Root Pouch containers at the MANTS trade show four or five years ago. They are made from recycled water bottles and are constructed to last.

They do not pay me to say that, this is what I use, I buy them here for around $5 each. The pots are so tough, I've actually filled them with concrete to hold a carport in place.15 gallons is the smallest size I would want to use for planting as they will need watered often in mid-summer.

I fill them with Pitt Moss Plentiful, it's made locally around Pittsburgh from recycled newspaper. The "Plentiful" version has organic fertilizer added, so it has what the plants need.

The Pitt Moss uses 2/3 less water than conventional planting mixes, so it's perfect for containers and also for newer gardeners. It's also very lightweight, all these 15-gallon containers were taken home easily by the gardeners by carrying them to the car.

I recently used them to teach container gardening class at a "Learn, Plant and Grow" event held by the Wilkinsburg Chamber of Commerce. It's a project sponsored by Farm to Table of Western Pa. I'm as so lucky to be working on many gardening projects for the organization. I can't wait to tell you everything else we're doing together.

We planted blue potatoes, collards, lettuce, onion and some other things too, most importantly we had fun.

Ginger was happy to continue her container garden. She has used five-gallon buckets, with success, but these bigger pots, now planted with veggies, will start producing soon.

Dan and Kathy are getting into gardening and will be growing shallots among other things.

Sussana wants to use her containers to start a community garden for the residents in her apartment building.

Stay tuned to see the other project I'm partnering with Farm to Table of Western Pa.
